As soon as you walk in and head to your table, you're going to realize how massive this place is. You can feel how old it is and they kept the decor for an old steakhouse from 1902, which was soo cool. The service was top notch, everything came out perfect. We for sure would come back if we ever went back to Indianapolis.

our food was excellent. We both had small fillets. Spinach salad was to die for. Was disappointed, though that even though I mentioned birthdays on our reservation, we were not given the usual birthday card or free birthday dessert. Also, this time around very unusual for St Elmo, our server was very dry and non-personal. Brought our food and that was it. No small talk. I might consider going somewhere else for my birthday celebration next time.

Absolutely beautiful atmosphere with very professional service. The dry aged ribeye was cooked to perfection and exceeded my expectations. I will definitely be going back soon.

Absolutely AMAZING SERVICE AND FOOD! We were in town for a cheer competition and it was my nieces birthday dinner. We didn't know what kind of dress code it was but the staff was 100% incredible--patient, kind and explained to us the menu thoroughly since it was our first time. We enjoyed our steak and soup dinner. I got the lobster bisque and it was rich and creamy!

Every time I come to Indianapolis we come here for St. Elmo's famous mega-spicy shrimp cocktail and a beautifully-prepared steak. Salads and sides were excellent too, as was the vibrant but convivial atmosphere. The one thing from this meal that was not appreciated was that our server tried to do some shifty up-selling on wine - for example suggesting a $40 glass when we were clearly a group seeking a lower price point. But apart from that we love St. Elmo, and that fabulous cocktail sauce!!

Are you really a Hoosier if you haven't eaten at St. Elmo? Have you really, truly visited the Circle City if you haven't dined at this establishment? St. Elmo Steak House is over a century old. Many famous people and professional athletes have eaten here. I've lived in central Indiana for almost a decade, and I finally had a meal at St. Elmo. I'm glad that I've visited, but I think one visit was enough for me. I eat steak maybe once or twice a year, so I don't really know my way around a big piece of meat like other steak lovers do. I got the prime rib, which isn't always available every day, but it was available when I visited (a Monday). They asked me how I wanted it cooked, and I said, "What do you recommend?" And they said, "However you like it," so I ordered my prime rib medium well. It turns out that a medium well prime rib is way too overcooked! My prime rib was charred in lots of spots. It was fine, though, because I was sharing the prime rib with my children, who don't like a lot of pink in their meat. Prime rib comes with au jus and a horseradish sauce. The horseradish sauce was not at all spicy, and tasted more like an aioli. Speaking of sharing: There is no kids menu at St. Elmo, so if you bring your young children, your choices are to have your child order their own entree, or you can share your meal. St. Elmo also has shareable sides, which are more than enough for four people to spilt. They were perfectly fine with us just ordering entrees for the adults and sharing with the kids. We did end up getting a shareable side: the king crab mac and cheese. My kids loved the crab mac and cheese, which I was surprised and delighted by. I thought I was going to have to pick out the crab pieces, but they devoured the entire dish. My favorite part of the meal was my glass of red wine (Malbec) and the Caesar salad, which was cold, briny and perfectly dressed. It's so hard to find a decent Caesar salad anywhere, but you can find a great one here. I loved my salad and wine so much that I might be back to enjoy that combo again at the bar. Our meal ended with two desserts: the creme brûlée and the bourbon butter cake. The creme brûlée was amazing and simple. The bourbon butter cake was rich and decadent -- a gooey cake topped with vanilla bean ice cream. When you cut into the cake, it was steaming from just being removed from the oven, but the ice cream took the edge off a bit, and made the whole dessert come together. If it's on the menu when you visit, the bourbon butter cake is the thing to get. FYI for those wondering: St. Elmo does not validate parking anymore, which is a bummer. They used to, but they don't anymore for reasons. We parked right across the street at the World of Wonders parking garage and paid $20 for around two hours of parking. There might be cheaper parking elsewhere, but World of Wonders is very close.

The atmosphere of this restaurant is amazing! It was such a cool vibe. We sat down in the wine cellar. Really great experience for a group, all the servers are amazing! The food was delicious and so filling!! Their Shrimp Cocktail is famous, but it was too spicy for me. Loved their Filet with Bernaise as well, but it over the temp I asked for.

Impeccable service. Our waiter Juan was top notch. He helped us decide on the sauce for our steak. He checked on us often. There are sooooooo many employees!! Everyone was nice, smiled and seemed happy to work there. The ambiance is old school steakhouse. Very dark, ambient lighting and photos on the wall. Ribeye medium rare- cooked perfectly. 14 ounces- we shared this steak. Mash potatoes- delicious and smooth made with red potatoes Creamed Spinach- delicious. Creamy and flavorful. King crab Mac n cheese- small amount of cream but the Mac and cheese was creamy and decadent. Navy bean soup- delicious with a Smokey finish Bread basket- super fresh. Peppered butter and even included cheese strips for the keto peeps. Shrimp cocktail!! Get it! That horseradish is bomb!! Really great experience and I recommend 10/10

Eating at the iconic St. Elmo's restaurant in Indianapolis is an unforgettable experience. From the minute you walk through the doors, you feel the energy. With no reservations, we walked in and found seats at their historic bar. Staff members greeted us and gave us menus, including the new Happy Hour menu. Locally made Barkeeps vodka was on special, so of course, I ordered a dirty martini. OMG, that martini was smooth. My husband had his sights on their famous shrimp cocktail. With big chucks of the most potent horseradish on earth, he ate every morsel of those shrimp til his forehead turned a brilliant red. I was anxious to try their lobster bisque. The bisque is velvety with many bits of lobster throughout. It was the best lobster bisque I've had. (Ask for it if you don't see it on the menu.) For dinner, I ordered the Chopped BLT Salad. The plate of salad was immense, and I dug in before I even remembered to take a photo. Damn. There were chucks of thick cut bacon, tomatoes and the vinaigrette was perfectly tart. St. Elmo's has been in the same location since 1902. While they are famous for steaks, they offer lighter options, too. If you're visiting, THIS is the place to eat. The servers are engaging and friendly. Food came out quickly. We found metered street parking, but they have valet parking as well.
